- If your ability to provide food, heat, shelter, or income was disrupted tomorrow, how long could your household continue without outside help?
- Are you building financial resilience alongside your food, water, energy, and security systems?
- If you distrust banks, governments, pensions, and large institutions, do you have a practical financial strategy that reduces your dependence on them?
- Could your family keep the homestead if you became sick, injured, or unable to work?
- If something happened to you, would your family inherit the life you built, or be forced to sell pieces of it just to cover debts, taxes, and living expenses?
- Is your wealth tied up in land, equipment, livestock, and infrastructure, or do you also have accessible money when life demands it?
- Are you protecting yourself from the financial system, or simply avoiding it without building a stronger system of your own?
- Do you understand insurance well enough to decide where it genuinely supports your independence and where it does not?
- Are you creating multiple sources of income that cannot all be shut down by one employer, platform, industry, or policy change?
- What would true financial sovereignty look like if it included more than surviving outside the system and gave your family the ability to thrive for generations?
1. How the financial system actually works
because you can't win the game if you don't know the rules
2. Financial independence
Building wealth and income streams that reduce your reliance on employers, pensions, banks, and government programs.
3. Protecting your homestead
Creating a plan to help your family keep the land, home, livestock, equipment, and life you have worked to build.
4.Generational sovereignty
Transferring your property, wealth, knowledge, and values to the next generation with less taxation, conflict, and forced asset sales.
5. Financial literacy
When you understand how money works, you start making very different decisions.
The education system teaches us how to work inside the system, but rarely how to become financially independent from it. Most Canadians are taught to get a secure job, contribute to a pension, trust the banks managing their money, and hope it will all be enough someday. But what happens when contracts disappear, inflation erodes your retirement income, government programs change, or the system you were told to rely on no longer feels reliable?
This conversation is for homesteaders, preppers, independent educators, entrepreneurs, and anyone building a life with greater personal and financial autonomy.
Hosted by Rob and Sarah Swain, with special guest host Cheryl Greisinger, this webinar brings together people who have worked and operated inside traditional systems, started asking harder questions, and chose to build something different. We’ll explore how money, retirement, protection, and long-term wealth actually work in Canada, so you can make informed decisions, protect what you are building, and create a financial plan that reflects your values.
This is not about telling you to trust the system. It is about understanding it well enough that you are no longer powerless inside it.
YOUR HOSTS
Rob & Sarah Swain
Entrepreneurs, Financial & Insurance Services
Sarah knows firsthand what it means to build, lose, rebuild, and restructure a business. Those experiences exposed the gaps in traditional financial advice and the pressures Canadian families and small business owners often face behind closed doors. She has built her work around making complex financial concepts practical, honest, and useful, helping people understand the system well enough to make it work in their favour.
Rob spent his career in federal law enforcement before taking a closer look at his pension and realizing that the conventional path was not going to create the future or autonomy he wanted. A hunter and outdoor survival instructor, Rob understands the importance of preparation, self-reliance, and knowing how to protect what matters. Today, he brings that same mindset to financial education.
Based in rural Alberta, Rob and Sarah live a grounded, resourceful life centred around simplicity, preparedness, and long-term sustainability. Their approach to money reflects those same values: understand what you own, know how it works, protect what you are building, and never surrender your future to a system you do not understand.
They believe financial literacy should be available to everyone, so families and small business owners can make informed decisions, build lasting independence, and stop feeling powerless in a system that was never designed to teach them how to win.
