Are You Asking Yourself the Right Questions?
Â
What happens to your income if there's a surplus of teachers and your contract isn't renewed?
Â
Will your pension actually keep up with the cost of living 20 years from now?
Â
Do you know how to take your retirement into your own hands, independent of your employer?
Â
If you're teaching outside the traditional system, do you have the financial literacy to model true independence for your students?
Â
What would it look like to teach kids about financial sovereignty before they're handed the "just rely on your pension" story?
Â
1. How the financial system actually works
because you can't win the game if you don't know the rules
2. The pension reality check
What inflation does to it over time, and how to know whether it will be enough to fund your desired retirement lifestyle
3. Job Security
Is it what it's all chalked up to be, and do you have a backup plan?
4. Your financial independence number
Learn the importance of knowing your financial independence number, and how it prepares you properly with a path to retirement.
5. Financial literacy
When you understand how money works, you start making very different decisions.
The education system is remarkable at producing graduates who can analyze literature and solve quadratic equations. It is almost completely silent on how money and retirement actually work in Canada.
"Job security" is a story. A surplus of teachers, inflation quietly eroding your pension's purchasing power, and a system that was never designed to support independent educators. These aren't hypotheticals. They're already happening.
This webinar is full of special guests who are and were inside that system, started asking hard questions, and decided to do something about it.Â
YOUR HOST
Sarah Swain
Entrepreneur, Founder of Sovereign Acres Publishing House & Financial Broker
Having built, lost, rebuilt, and restructured multiple businesses, Sarah understands firsthand the gaps in traditional financial advice and the real pressures Canadian families and small business owners face behind closed doors. Sarah walks the talk in both life and business, and when she learns something new, she passes it along so more people can avoid unnecessary hardship.Â
Based in rural Alberta, Sarah lives a grounded, practical life focused on family, resourcefulness, and long-term sustainability. Her renewed approach to money reflects that same philosophy: simple, honest, and built to support real life, not just idealistic scenarios. She believes financial literacy should be taught to everyone, so no family or small business owner is ever left behind to face off with a system that isn't designed to help the average person win.
Sarah works alongside her husband, Rob in life & business and together, they bring a family-centred, values-driven lens to financial education and planning, helping average Canadian families and small business owners understand how to protect what they’re building while creating flexibility for the future in an increasingly challenging economy.
Special Guests
Angela Anna Maria Sena
A licensed financial broker and the founder and lead educator of a dynamic, cutting-edge private school in Toronto. Building her school from the ground up revealed a clear gap—both educators and students are rarely equipped with the financial literacy needed to create true freedom.
Driven by this, Angela now works with families, educators, and school leaders to build financial clarity, stability, and long-term wealth. At the same time, she leads financial literacy within her school, equipping the next generation with the mindset and tools to steward money with purpose.
Her work is rooted in one core belief: financial freedom isn’t optional—it’s foundational.
Julia Lefaivre
Julia is an educator, financial broker, and entrepreneur who helps Canadian families and teachers take control of their financial future.
After being laid off in 2011 while on maternity leave, she realized she had no clear plan, protection, or long-term vision for retirement.
In 2021, after making a necessary medical decision for her family, she once again faced uncertainty but this time, she was prepared with a plan, a strategy, and the right financial protection in place.
After building her own strategy for long-term wealth and retirement, Julia now helps educators rethink retirement, question whether their pension is truly enough, and explore what they can do about it.

Derek Schefold
Derek grew up in a household shaped by both teaching and entrepreneurship, which gave him a strong foundation in discipline and connection.
He began his career in marketing, commuting into Toronto, but quickly realized the corporate path didn’t feel aligned. Everything shifted when he was diagnosed with cancer at 27—a moment that forced him to rethink his direction. He chose to return to school and become a teacher, a path that felt far more meaningful and purpose-driven.
In 2025, a second health scare linked to his earlier treatment became another pivotal moment. It deepened his perspective and led him to focus more intentionally on long-term stability—not just for his own family, but for others as well.
What began as conversations about personal finances evolved into a genuine commitment to helping people make thoughtful, informed decisions about their future.
